As we prepare for 2026, we pause to reflect on a year marked by evolving payer scrutiny, increased demand for documentation accuracy, and the continued dedication of coding and CDI professionals across the country.
At Pinson & Tang, our mission has always been clear: to support coding and CDI specialists, managers, physicians, and healthcare organizations with practical, clinically grounded guidance that stands up to real-world challenges. In a rapidly changing environment, your role has never been more important—and we are grateful to be part of your work.
2025 has been one of our most impactful years yet. Here’s a look back at the resources, innovations, and learning moments that shaped 2025:
- Meaningful enhancements to the CDI Pocket Guide®—especially the Unbound Edition:
- Manager Notes: The manager notes feature allows leaders to offer additional guidance to their team or individuals, both within key reference and guideline topics. These notes are visible in the content and compiled under a separate menu item.
- Highlighting: You have always had the ability to “star” your preferences so they are at the top but now we have launched with the ability to highlight key text that is important to you … even different colors so you can better organize the information.
- Upgraded the Unbound Edition platform: Although not visible to users, this improvement enabled us to launch more features and greater stability.
- All enhancements were driven by real user feedback and built to support education, consistency, and efficiency at every level.
- Of course, we have continued to update the content of the CDI Pocket Guide®. Our commitment to clinically sound, defensible documentation guidance remained front and center:
- Ongoing content refinement and clarification
- Emphasis on clinical validation, accurate coding, and payer-focused documentation challenges
- Practical explanations designed to support coding and CDI specialists in daily case review—not just theory.
- Educational webinars: We take pride in our webinar program, which focuses on providing actionable, clinically relevant insights for CDI and coding professionals beyond just CEUs. In 2025, we hosted:
- 10 educational webinars
- 17,498 participants
- 31,514 total hours of learner engagement.
Just as important as the numbers is the content. A recent example is our webinar featuring Dr. Mervyn Singer, lead author of the Sepsis-3 consensus definition, who shared critical updates on SOFA scoring and evolving interpretations—insight that directly impacts CDI review, clinical validation, and payer discussions. These are the types of conversations we believe truly support the profession.
- Blog Articles: In addition to webinars, our blog serves as an ongoing extension of our educational mission. Throughout the year, we share timely insights, clinical perspectives, and practical guidance from Pinson & Tang on topics impacting CDI and coding work in real time—from documentation and clinical validation challenges to payer trends and evolving definitions. These posts are designed to keep the CDI and coding community informed, confident, and prepared, offering clarity and context between live educational events.
- Connecting: We’ve appreciated every opportunity to connect with you—through webinars, emails, and conversations—and we value the insights you’ve shared about what you need most in your day-to-day work.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we look toward 2026 and publishing our 20th edition, we remain inspired by your dedication to excellence in coding and CDI. Your questions, challenges, and feedback continue to shape how we evolve our content, tools, and education.
Thank you for your partnership this year—and for the vital role you play every day in improving documentation quality, supporting patient care, and strengthening healthcare organizations.
We look forward to supporting you, your teams, and your success in the year ahead.
